Homemade Microwave Puffy Paint: Art and Science for Kids

Homemade Microwave Puffy Paint: Art and Science for Kids

Making Puffy Paint is easy peasy and the result – not just fun and beautiful but also an interesting science experiment in itself.

All the ingredients are generally available in every kitchen.

Out of one batch, I intended to make four portions in four different colours

I set aside one cup refined flour in a big bowl. Mixed three tea-spoons baking powder and one tea-spoon salt. To this I added enough water so as to get a thick pouring consistency.

In the next step, I divided the batter into four smaller bowls and added food colours to each.

In the final step, I poured these into the cones that I had made in advance with transparent plastic sheets. I tied the top end with elastic band and also taped them so they would not leak.

And then, your children can settled down to make these patterns by squeezing the cones onto cardboards.

Besides painting with the cones, you can also used buds/Q-tips to apply dots etc.

Once the artwork was done, it was time for the fun part – the baking of their artwork.

The paintings were slid off into the microwave one by one and we ‘baked’ for 30-40 seconds at 200 degree centigrade.

After you are finished watch as your children come to life with excitement as they see what they have  created.

PIN THE NOSE ON RUDOLPH

This game has taken the classic pin the tail on the donkey and added a Christmas twist. Have fun as your grandkids try to place Rudolph's nose on to his head.   And as an added bonus they can try to put Rudolph's antlers on top of his head as well.

reindeer_horn_template.pdf

reindeer-face-template

You will need:

Brown paper or card for Rudolph's face
Dark brown, black or red card for Rudolph's horns
Scrap of red card or a large red pompom for his nose
A black felt tip or marker
Sticky tack

Print out our printables and use them as a guide for cutting out a large Rudolph to attach to a wall or door. You will need to enlarge them substantially. Draw on his features and put a small black cross where his nose should go.

Cut out a nose from red card and attach a large piece of sticky tack. Now blindfold your children, turn them around 3 times, and ask them to pin the nose on Rudolph!

Welcome to the GRANDPARENTS TREASURE CHEST

GRANDPARENTS TREASURE CHEST

A WEALTH OF INFORMATION AND RESOURCES FOR GRANDPARENTS AND NEW PARENTS TO KEEP LITTLE ONES ENTERTAINED FOR HOURS.

What are WE about:

This blog is dedicated to all us as grandparents who have been out of the loop for the last several years.

Lets face the facts, our kids have all grown up and have HOPEFULLY all moved out of the house.  Its their turn to raise the children, and our turn to SPOIL them by giving them what ever they want, loading them up with sugar and sending them home.

Sounds easy enough.   BUT IS REALLY?

PROBLEM NO. 1
The TV shows they used to watch are not playing anymore, except for one are two like sponge bob.  Then Most of the programs are all turned around. For example: instead of Clifford the Big Red Dog, it's  Clifford the little Red Dog??  And Mr. Rogers neighborhood has been replaced by Daniel an animated version of the neighborhood without all the real people.

 ARE YOU FOLLOWING ALONG?

There are people on the kids chanels I dont know, monsters I don't recognize, superheroes I don't remember from any comic book I ever read.  Just thinking about  all this stuff is making my head spin!   So,  I had to ask my self, when did I get so old and so far OUT OF THE LOOP??

PROBLEM  NO. 2
Have you looked in the toy isles lately?  Other then a few board games, Nerf, and some Lego, its a whole new world.  The technology alone the younger generation is using is crazy.

So how do we as grandparents know what the younger generation is into now days?  With todays technicaly like cell phones,  tablets, and x-box's, it's hard to Keep up.   I have a coworker who has a son and he has 3 or 4 of the x-box game counsels??  FOR REAL?!  But I guess it's a real thing.  Some games will only play on certain x-box's.  When I was growing up I had one electronic game.  It was an Atari, and back then it cost a billion bucks.

Anyways off my soap box..

MY GOAL

My goal with THE GRANDPARENTS TREASURE CHEST  is to give grandparents a fighting chance.  To give Grandparents a few tools they can use to keep informed.
To give grandparents guidance on what toys are popular and why.  Give grandparents resources to websites and videos to help  them keep their grandchildren entertained and happy.

Thank you  Joe Gabriel
